The South Island Cardiac Workstream provides regional leadership for the overarching national goal of improving access, equity and quality of care for people living with cardiovascular illness, as well as reducing the number of people dying prematurely of heart disease.
The Cardiac Workstream is focused on ensuring there is a planned and collaborative approach to cardiac services in the South Island. In doing so, the workstream is comprised of District Health Board management and clinical staff from primary to tertiary care and also representation from St John.
The group is working on implementing common referral, prioritisation and condition management tools, which will help ensure patients have the same access to care and treatment no matter where they are in the region. Alongside this, work is also ongoing to reduce inequalities that exist in our communities in access to cardiac services.
