The South Island (PHO) Emergency Planning Coordinator position is one of three Regional Planning Coordinators, the other two are in the North Island.

Funding is indirectly from the Ministry of Health and this enables the resources and support to be provided without charge.

All work is done in coordination with the Emergency Planners in each DHB.

The main focus is to facilitate emergency preparedness for each South Island PHO and its member General Practices to help ensure that there is a continuity of the care provided by General Practices. Where requested by the PHO this support can be extended to Community Pharmacies.
