Mental Health & Addiction Services

The Mental Health & Addiction Alliance provides advice, guidance and direction to the South Island mental health sector and oversees the development of regional strategic planning. In achieving its vision, the Service Level Alliance also considers and prioritises recommendations from the Mental Health sector.

By working collaboratively, South Island DHBs can strengthen regional integration of services and improve the quality, access and sustainability of mental health services. Mental Health & Addiction Service Level Alliance (MH&A SLA) provides guidance and direction to the mental health sector, focusing the planning and development of improvements to services. MH&A SLA draws on expertise from across the mental health sector, including health professionals, consumer advocates and non-profit organisations to work on collaborative initiatives that will improve the quality of services for the South Island community.

The group is currently working on supporting the following areas:

  • alcohol and other drugs
  • peer support
  • advance preferences
  • suicide prevention
  • workforce development.
