Support Services

By working innovatively and collaboratively, the five South Island DHBs have achieved greater efficiency and effectiveness in the non-clinical services that are essential to keeping our hospitals running.

The Support Services Service Level Alliance (SS SLA) is improving quality of care for patients by making processes more efficient, more focused on what patients need, and ultimately reducing costs so that more can be spent on front line healthcare.

Support Services works closely with Health Benefits Limited (HBL), which is seeking to implement national solutions for some of the areas Support Services works on, including procurement, meal provision and laundry. HBL has been greatly impressed with the ongoing progress made by the work streams of the SS SLA, and is using many of the ideas developed in the South Island as models for how other DHBs in other areas could operate collaboratively.

Support Services encompasses a broad range of services and has established work streams to focus on laundry, food, procurement and supply chain, facilities management, and clinical engineering.
