Regional Allied Health Assistant (AHA) Training and Development Programme

Delivery of our regional AHA training is coordinated by the South Island Workforce Development Hub (SIWDH) and supported by an Allied Health Project Lead. The training is based in the workplace, and uses the Careerforce New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Level 3) qualification. Much of the learning is self-directed, but also requires support for the local team of health professionals, as the trainees are required to demonstrate some tasks/behaviours as part of their assessment. AHA trainees are supported locally by their assigned Assessor, and in some services a local training coordinator. Careerforce Work Place Advisors (CWAs) provide support for Assessors and trainees. Our Assessors are all very experienced, and are familiar with the content of, and resources that support the training, and as such can be your local go to people. We currently offer the following two strands at Level 3:

New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Level 3) Dental  Assistance Strand

and

New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Level 3) Health Assistance Strand 

 

South Island Regional AHA Training Plans

We have developed agreed regional training plans from the list of compulsory and elective Unit Standards available as part of these programmes. These list all the Unit Standards (USs) completed by AHAs during their training and the order in which they are completed, and meet the required 70 credits for the completion of the NZ Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Level 3).

Copies of current training plans are available from the AH Project Lead.

Additional training plans can be designed to support the development of new and emerging assistant/support worker roles that involve support for Allied Health Professionals.
